Avnei Chefez was established in 1990 by a group of students from the Hesder Yeshiva in Karnei Shomron. The name is symbolic and is taken from verse 12, chapter 54 in Isaiah, "And your entire border shall be Avnei Chefez (desired stones)". Avnei Chefez is a Torah national community with 280 families to date. There are four neighborhoods in our community, each with its own character: Nevei Chefez is city-like with apartment buildings, Avnei Shoham is country-like for those preferring private homes. A person wishing to open the window every morning to gorgeous scenery will doubtless choose the neighborhood of Mitzpe Chefez situated on the mountain, whereas someone who aims to grow with his surroundings would choose the new neighborhood of Avnei Chen. Avnei Chefez is located in West Shomron along the Tul Karem - Shechem route, between the communities of Shavei Shomron and Einav. The yishuv is next to the Beit Rabban Hill in a quiet and tranquil spot with spectacular panorama. On Shabbat and holidays the residents often go out on foot and walk the area enjoying the clear air and view of the pastoral Shomron hills. Thanks to the large number of children in our community, we have an elementary school, junior high schools for boys and girls, five preschools and one of largest daycare centers in the Shomron. The atmosphere in the school, the preschool classes and the daycare center is warm and intimate. The children in our educational institutions are privileged in receiving individualized attention and quality care. Culture is an integral part of our life style, and it is clear that cultural and social life are considered of highest value by the residents of Avnei Chefez. There are many and varied enrichment classes available in Avnei Chefez, as well as Torah classes for men and women, Bnei Akiva and Oz youth movements and a rich and varied library serving the entire population. The members of the community are characterized by acts of chesed, loving-kindness. The yishuv has a chesed committee responsible for assuring that mothers after birth and others in need are sent meals, but aside from the committee organized assistance there are some true righteous people in the yishuv who help the needy, the ill and the elderly. They collect contributions and give out staples in complete secrecy. |
